Amy is a British-Hong Kong playwright and graduate of both Yale and Oxford Universities. Her plays include MISS JULIE (Storyhouse, Chester), UNDER THE UMBRELLA (Belgrade Theatre Coventry, UK Tour), ACCEPTANCE (Hampstead Theatre) and SHANGRI-LA (Finborough Theatre) and her radio work includes TIGER GIRLS (BBC Radio 4) and KILBURN PASSION (BBC Radio 3). She is developing her play THATCHER IN CHINA at the National Theatre and she is also under commission to the Royal Shakespeare Company, Kiln Theatre, ice&fire and the Young Vic. Amy is also part of the inaugural Genesis New Playwrights Scheme at the Almeida for whom she is writing her next play as well as a new adaptation of MULAN. She has previously been part of the Tamasha and Criterion’s writers’ groups, the Young Vic’s British East Asian Group and the Critical Mass Writers Group at the Royal Court. Amy also writes for the screen having participated in the BBC Writersroom London Voices Group in 2016 and later being named on the BBC’s New Talent Hotlist the following year. She is adapting her play UNDER THE UMBRELLA with Merman, working on an original project with Sky Studios and adapting a piece of IP for Bad Wolf. Amy trained as a historian with a research interest in multinational empires, imperial decline, and nationality conflict, and is the author of ‘Nationalism and Political Liberty’ (Oxford University Press). She is fluent in English, German and Chinese and regularly translates contemporary Chinese plays into English.
